Who are North Tropics?
Hello! We are a friendly online rare plant shop based just outside the capital city of Edinburgh, Scotland that sources and imports rare as well as hard-to-get indoor plants, then delivers them to your door.
We are a family and friends run shop that was founded in 2020. Our aim to bring the real and genuine deep jungle tropics into the homes of Scotland and the UK.

Where do you get your plants from?
We source plants from all over the world. Many of our suppliers are based in South America, Southeast Asia, the Netherlands, and even propagated right here in Scotland!
When do you get more stock?
We are constantly importing plants from all around the globe to try keep our shop full. We will keep you updated on what new plants are being released and when they are due to be ready. You can stay up to date by following us on Instagram or joining our mailing list!
I’m trying to find a specific plant. Can you help?
Sure, we are happy to help. If you need help, please contact us and we can see what we can do. We accept plant requests, and if we can get our hands on them for you, we will reserve one for you.
How do I care for my plant?
As every plant is different, there is care guide details in the description of every plant on our website.
General care tips include:
Open your plants out the box as soon as you receive your parcel.
Give your plant a little drink of water after they have arrived. This will help the plants roots recover from transport shock.
Keep your plant out of direct sunlight, but in a bright lit area (This means don’t let the sun’s rays touch the plant).
Keep the plant in high humidity.

Orders & Payment
Do you take pre-orders?
We accept requests for plants along with reserves and sometimes preorders, but due to the nature of having to import living organisms from across the world it can take some time for them to be ready to move onto their new home. Therefore, we prefer not to do this. However, if you are looking for a plant we will be happy to help.
What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept all major credit/debit cards, Paypal and Klarna. To find out more about Klarna, including how it works and Terms and Conditions, visit our About Klarna page.
What are your shipping rates?
Our shipping rate is £6.99 for next day delivery (sometimes this can take between 1-3 days due to coronavirus) and FREE for orders over £75.
What shipping methods do you use?
All orders are sent on a next day or equivalent service. This is so your plants get to you as soon as possible.
How do you ship your plants?
We carefully cover the pot with compostable bags, wrap the plant in paper with string to keep the soil in place and then place the plant inside a cardboard tube to protect the foliage.
Your plant is then placed in a cardboard box surrounded by biodegradable packing peanuts. These packing peanuts can dissolve in water or be put into your compost bin. This way, we can protect your plant during transit and keep our packaging eco-friendly and recyclable.
Do you ship orders on a certain day?
We currently ship orders Monday to Wednesday to avoid your plants being kept over the weekend by shipping providers. All plants are shipped next day delivery or or equivalent service (within 1-2 working days, or sometimes 3 due to Coronavirus)
Do you provide heat packs?
We carefully check the weather constantly. If the weather is colder in winter, for example, we provide heat packs in your parcel free of charge.
Can you hold my order, or can it be delivered on a day of my choosing?
At this moment in time, we cannot - sorry!
Are all items tracked?
At the moment only larger orders are fully trackable. Once we get up to speed orders will then be fully tracked.
Do you ship outside of the UK?
Sadly, we can only currently ship to Scotland, Wales and England.
Do you ship to Northern Ireland?
Unfortunately, we cannot shop to Northern Ireland at this time.
Which shipping providers do you use?
We currently use Royal Mail and Parcelforce. Plants are shipped using a next day service to ensure your plants get to you as fast as possible.
I've received my plant! Now what?
Here are some tips on opening your plant order:
Carefully open the box and unwrap your new plants
The plants will be a bit shaken from their journey and look a bit sad. This is just an after-effect of postage.
The plants will crave humidity and warmth the most to recover from their journey. Give them a humid spot and slowly raise the temperature.
If the soil is dry, give the plant a little bit of water.
Give your plant some light. Keep out of direct sunlight though.
Do not repot, take the plant out the pot, or disturb the roots for four weeks. Let the plant settle first.
How do I care for my new plant?
Every plant will require different care according to the climate and conditions of where the plant originated from but Luckily a lot of Aroids will follow the same basic needs. specific care will be listed in the plant description. If you require more info please contact us.
Returns & Problems
Do you accept returns/exchanges?
We accept returns and exchanges within 14 days of receipt. To start a return, please email email@example.com with photos of the plant with a detailed description of why you would like to return it.
Plants must be in the same condition we sold them for us to accept a return or exchange. We provide care guide details; however, It is your responsibility to look after and care for your plant.
My plant has arrived damaged
Although we package our plants with care, sometimes accidents can happen during transit which is out with our control. If this happens, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with photos of the damage within 48 hours of delivery and we will happily help.
